PROCESS SAFETY DAY 2017
ADDRESSING RISK NORMALISATION & KNOW HOW TO DEAL WITH DILEMMAS

Aim

Our aim is to reach Goal Zero wherein our facilities operate with “no leaks” or incidents that can cause injuries, asset damage or an undesirable environmental impact
Objectives & Background
Asset Integrity-Process Safety Management (AI-PSM) is crucial for achieving the Company’s strategic goal -“Our Assets Are Safe and We Know It”- and to prevent any tragic incidents.
We work in an industry that involves the operation of processes that contain flammable materials at high temperatures and pressures. When something goes wrong, it can go very wrong. Fortunately, we can work with these materials safely. AI-PSM refers to the ways we manage our facilities through their complete life cycle with the goal of never unintentionally releasing hazardous material.
Good process safety management does not happen by chance and requires broad level visibility and constant active engagement with the workforce. This will be the fourth year that we have brought everyone together to build on everything we have achieved so far and find even better ways to sustain and improve our AI-PSM performance in order to avoid incidents
We have two themes this year - addressing risk normalisation and knowing how to deal with dilemmas.
The approach will be team based engagement sessions led by line managers, supervisors or team leads, wherein all staff and contractors are invited to get involved in this very important and purposeful conversation about these two themes.
Experience has shown that conversations between small groups of a maximum of 30 people are more effective, as opposed to large town hall sessions.

*Reflective learning is a facilitated interactive group discussion. Through simple and engaging materials (such as video) we make an emotional connection and let people internalise an incident. HOWEVER, IT’S NOT JUST ABOUT WATCHING A VIDEO. Through discussions with colleagues people can learn from each other and have an opportunity to gain new insights. At the end of the session we ask everybody to identify a personal action. WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO DIFFERENTLY?
