Now that PDO has been recommended for ISO 14001 certification, we are all
tempted to make tall claims on our achievements.
We are the first E&P Company in Oman to have this distinction.
We are the first E&P Company in Middle East to have this distinction, to
the best of our knowledge We are probably among one of the more complicated
organisations to have achieved this, and so on ..
ISO have seen it all and have made some
guidelines on what to claim and what NOT to claim on your ISO 14001 certification.
Also see statistics on those who reached ISO before us.
My target of setting up this site was 2500 visitors by the time audit is
complete. I almost made it, but hope that with this final push, 2500 will be
reached.

ISO 14001 is an internationally recognized Environmental
Management System (EMS) standard. PDO set itself a target of implementing a certified ISO 14001
EMS in our organization by end of a 1999.
PDO's desire to implement ISO 14001 was prompted by our commitment to continuously improve
our environmental management and demonstrate this commitment through externally verified and
internationally recognized management systems.
In terms of complexity of organization and size of operation, the EMS
implementation in PDO was perhaps one of the biggest of its kind undertaken.
While PDO is a monolithic organisation from outside, internally it is divided
into a number of Product Flow Asset Teams (which are mini-oil producers) and
Service Providers (Siesmic, Drilling, Engineering, Laboratories etc.). So the strategy followed
by PDO is at the same time useful for a large oil company but is also useful for a small laboratory,
an engineering contractor or a drilling company.
This page was designed with a view to keep everybody in the organisation
informed of the progress of ISO implementation.
