1.
Purpose of this
document
This document provides STOP Supervisors with information and guidance on how
they should use the STOP database and STOP cards that they have written or that
have been raised by others in the area they are responsible for.
This document assumes that the reader is fully familiar with the STOP program
and has either attended a “STOP implementation workshop” or is part of the STOP
cascade in his Asset Team.
Each Asset Team and work location needs to develop a procedure and/or practice
on how to utilize the “STOP cards ”, be they electronic or handwritten, in their
local area.
2.
STOP cards: how and
why should they be completed?
STOP cards can be completed electronically in the STOP database or handwritten
on a real card .The electronic version is clearly preferred but is not available
to those that do not have access to a PC.
The STOP card is the written record of a STOP conversation between a supervisor
and an employee. The main value of STOP comes out in that one to one
conversation. By writing the little report on a STOP card (real card or
electronic version) the value of STOP is extended.
If
cards are not written each individual supervisor will only be aware of the
problems he has seen. He is not aware of similar or additional problems noticed
by his colleagues. By writing, collecting and analysing the STOP reports the
full picture/overview of an area or site emerges. It enables a supervisor to
keep “a finger on the pulse” on what really goes on in his area of control.
