Areas Of Improvement

  • There is little evidence of coast based management active participation in the programme.
  • The danger exists of too much emphasis on entering card data into the data base, as opposed to emphasising the value of the safety contact between supervisor and individual observed.
  • At the same time more use should be made of lateral learning.
  • There is some evidence that the data base has some minor problems that are offputting for some people or not fully understood by others.
  • Contractor use of STOP seems to be sporadic and not sufficiently monitored by line management.
  • Reviewing the 70 LTIs (YTD Nov.2006) it is clear that the unsafe acts concerned should have been picked up by proper use of STOP.This must be emphasised , on continuous basis , especially in upcoming re-training for STOP.
