What We Do…
The primary role of the Safety Engineering function is to ensure that the hazards and effects management process (HEMP) is implemented across all areas of the business for all severity five and high risk hazards. This includes participation in VARs (3/4), PERTs, and Pre Start Up Audits.

In PDO, Safety Engineering are the Corporate Discipline Focal Point (CDFP) for:

  • Fire Fighting and Fire Protection Systems
  • Application of Fire and Gas Detection Systems
  • HEMP applied to Severity Five and High Risk Hazards
  • HSE Cases

    The Services We Provide…
    The Safety Engineering function provides advice and services for HSSE Hazards and Risk Studies (business process EP.17.03.05.03), including:

  • Hazard identification e.g. HAZID, HAZOP
  • Hazard assessment e.g. Fire & Explosion Analysis, Bow Ties
  • Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA)
  • Demonstrations that HSE risks are As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP)


  • The Safety Engineering function also provides advice and services for Technical Safety including HSE Cases (business process EP.17.03.05.04) – see CDFP list.
