How many PDO scholarships are given each year?

PDO offers 15 scholarships every year to High School Leavers, for further education at University Undergraduate level abroad.

We also fund 5 scholarships to study the BSc. Program in Applied Geosciences with The German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech).

Who is eligible to receive a PDO Scholarship?

Overseas Scholarships: Omani Nationals with Grade 12 General Certificate of Education (or equivalent) scoring a minimum overall average grade (B), and (A) in each subject of Pure Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English.

GUtech Scholarships: Omani Nationals with Grade 12 General Certificate of Education (or equivalent) scoring a minimum overall average grade (B), and (B) in each subject of Pure Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English.

How will you know when to apply?

The Ministry of Higher Education will advertise application dates in local media through the Higher Education Admission Centre.

What is the application process?

The nomination process is fully administrated by Higher Education Admission Centre according to the Centre rules and regulations.

What is the selection process?

Candidates will be selected under the patronage of the Higher Education Acceptance Centre (HEAC) within the Scholarships Department of the Ministry of Higher Education. Upon submission of applications, the candidates will be advised of the next steps. Selected candidates will be awarded a scholarship, subject to passing a PDO Medical examination in August. Successful candidates, who sit the IELTS and achieve a minimum band of 6 in each element of the test and an overall band of 6.5 or higher, may proceed overseas in September to commence a one year university “Foundation Program”.
The remaining selected candidates will follow a two-year ‘A; level Programme at The Sultan’s School “Advanced Learning Centre” at Seeb, Muscat, which runs from September to July of the following year. There will be a four-week summer school in the U.K at the end of the first year of the programme. Successful scholars from the “A” level programme will commence their degree courses overseas.

What kind of degrees does PDO offer scholarships for?

Scholarships are offered for overseas Honours Degree Programmes mainly in British and Australian in top universities accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education.
The majors are advertised each year by the company through Higher Education Admission Centre. These are usually related to the Oil and Gas industry such as Petroleum Engineering and Geosciences (which includes Production Geology, Geology and Geophysics).
