2025 Second Alert HiPo#35 Crane hit Trailer during Transportation on the road
During Rig move, the convoy was led by two ROP vehicles, and a Rig move Supervisor vehicle. The Crane operator started driving with the convoy at 09:23 hrs. During the move, several stops were made for load checking and a lunch break at 13:11 hrs. The crane operator resumed driving with the convoy at 13:30 hrs., positioning the crane behind the Trailer carrying the TDS load. The Crane was the last load vehicle in the Convoy. After driving an additional 3 kilometers, the convoy came to a stop due to road construction work. The Diesel Tank Trailer was at a complete halt, and the TDS Trailer was slowing down (3kmh). The Crane operator did not identify the stop, which resulted in the crane boom hitting the TDS section loaded on the Trailer, pushing the Trailer into the rear of the Rig Diesel Tank Trailer positioned in front. The Crane operator was taken to the hospital for assessment but did not sustain any internal or external injuries.
Always pay attention while driving-Don’t get distracted. Always ensure that there is adequate distance between the vehicles Always Identify the Dust Hazard which could impact the visibility During the Rig Move Operation. Always use defensive driving techniques.
Driver (Crane Operator) was distracted while driving, was not paying attention to the traffic that was slowing down and did not maintain a safe distance from the Trailer in front of him. The convoy encountered road construction, which created dust and required a diversion. As a result, the ROP convoy stopped to allow only one vehicle to pass at a time for Over Dimension Cargo guidance.
