2024 Second Alert#02 HiPo#02 MVI_ Tipper rolled over
On 19th Jan 2024 at about 10:47 hrs, tipper & driver hired that was engaged for shifting the material from borrow pit to Jaleel, HDD was driving back to Jaleel borrow pit after unloading the material at Jaleel-SW-OP17 work location. At about 19 KM from the borrow pit, he loses control over the vehicle as the road was wet and slippery and in the process the vehicle tipped over. The driver himself safely moved out from the tipper, uninjured. On physical observation of the vehicle, it was observed that the windshield and right-side rear-view glass was broken.
As a driver, do you ensure you are aware of road conditions on your route? Do you adjust your driving speed to adjust to road conditions?. As a journey manager, do you ensure new drivers are adequately informed of unique road hazards in your area?
The driver was allowed to drive in the treacherous Sabkha soil condition which he had little experience with. The driver lost control of tipper as he made a sharp turn to avoid patch of loose wet Sabkha soil (mud) on the main carriageway. The driver was driving at high speeds for the muddy soil conditions, reducing his ability to maneuver the tipper.
